Brussels Visit Kelly Takes His Campaign To Brussels – Sean Kelly To Visit Brussels To Discuss His Policy’s and To Raise Concerns Raised With Him Over The Campaign
Monday April 20th: Sean Kelly is to visit Brussels today to raise various issues of concern that have been raised over the course of his campaign. Kelly will meet representatives of the IFA, Fisheries, IBEC as well as representatives of the Agricultural and Rural Development sectors, the trip will also include meetings with the EPP. Kelly hopes to raise his Community Development Initiative, and the need for a fairer interpretation and implementation of EU Regulations to ensure farmers, fishermen, and business can develop and grow. “I said at the beginning of my campaign that I would go to Brussels and raise the concerns that have been highlighted to me and to discuss my own ideas with the relevant bodies at Parliament. I have been all across the Ireland South constituency over the past six weeks and have met a huge number of farmers, fishermen and small business owners as well as members of the public, in all these meetings there has been one common denominator, people want to work hard to get out of this current financial crisis. I want to help them to do so, I want to work with Europe and the Irish government to work better and to help our farmers to work the land, our fishermen to fish the seas and our business to grow.” Kelly said. Kelly continued, “We have some crazy situations where we see regulations being interpreted in a manner in this state that is completely contrary to our neighbours. Our fishermen are criminalised if they do not dump already dead fish back in the sea because they may be slightly over quota, our farmers have to look on as their Northern neighbours till and spread slurry. Can we allow this to continue, we need to introduce an element of common sense into how we do our business at European, National and local level. This trip will start the process of working to make Europe work better for Ireland South and the country and I hope to be able to continue this work following the poll on June 5th.” ENDS: Issued on behalf of Sean Kelly, for further information please contact David Mc Carthy 086 662 0448.
